Frequently Asked Questions

Below are all of our Frequently Asked Questions, some you may have seen on our other pages.

Can I wait for my child / partner while they take a class?2025-11-13T20:25:27+00:00

No. Waiting for someone to finish class in our office is not permissible.  Only registered students are able to be in the classroom during class.  If there are any significant reasons to wait for another student in class you must notify Absolute CPR via email at info@absolutecpr.com well in advanced to allow us to make any accommodations if needed.  Permission needs to be obtained.  Otherwise we suggest you make two registrations so you can accompany class together.

Note:  Our building does not have. waiting room either.  Loitering in the hallways is not allowed and considered a security issue with other tenants therefore not allowed. You are welcome to wait in your vehicle or visit the near by businesses.

Can I bring my child/children with me to class?2025-10-27T16:54:14+00:00

No.  These classes require you to pay attention to instructional videos and to be physically active, caring for or watching over a child is not acceptable.  Please find child care in advanced to your class date – please do not wait to the last minute.

Why is being on time for class important?2025-10-27T16:49:24+00:00

These classes are educational and taught by instructional videos.  Waiting for every student to arrive could result in waiting all day in some situations which is not fair for the students who arrived on time.  For students who are missing any instructional videos, your Course Completion Card cannot be issued if you are not present therefore if you miss any portion of these videos you will be considered a No Show, your Course Completion Card will not be issued and you will have to tregistrer for another class.  Arriving on time cannot be stressed enough. Arguing with the instructor about attending class if you are ltardy is unacceptable, doing so in front of other students is also unacceptable.

Why are there so many policies?2025-10-27T16:08:03+00:00

Many of our policies are required by law.  Our Privay Policy, Terms of Service, and Disclaimers are part of every organization designed to help protect the consumer (you) when interacting with each other (for example using our website).  Our General Policies do look lengthly but time has proven them necessary.  Everything stems from a real world scenarios.  We once had parents bring their newly born infant babies to class, so we needed to make a policy regarding bringing your children to class.  We have had friends and family members want to wait with students, so we had to write a policy saying friends and family members are not allowed to wait in the classroom.  This is all done to ensure a safe, enjoyable experience for everyone.

What is your Cancellation and Rescheduling Policy like?2025-10-27T15:26:28+00:00

We feel we offer a very fair cancellation and rescheduling policy.  Our policy offers a sliding scale in lieu of a strict date/time to allow cancellation or rescheduling. This sliding scale allows for some room for emergencies and for you to accommodate these emergencies accordingly.  Giving you time to decide how you want to proceed.  This schedule we have is not for punishment but instead designed for flexibility.  Allowing you to manage your schedule

Why do you have a Cancellation and Rescheduling Policy?2025-10-27T15:15:51+00:00

This is a popular question we get asked occasionally. It is not because we are trying to be mean, just the opposite.  We are trying to make a comfortable and enjoyable class for everyone.  If there were no cancellation or rescheduling fees, people would just come to class when they want to, they would change dates when ever they wanted reserving seats in our class.  When classes are not filling up we try to move students around so that we are not just teaching 2 or 3 people.  Science has shown that these classes are more beneficial to learning when offered in a group setting – the videos shown are produced to be played in front of groups.  So we do our best to teach groups of people instead of two or three students.

We offer plenty of classes to choose from.  Outside of emergencies there should not be many reasons to cancel or reschedule considering you picked this day to best fit your schedule.

Where can I find Your Rescheduling and Cancellation Policy?2025-10-27T15:04:51+00:00

We post our policies throughout our website for easy reference.  Click on “Resources” on the bottom of every page to be directed here to this page – or click on General Policies to be taken to the Rescheduling and Cancellation Policies on the Resources Page. These Policies (along with others) are also available when you register for review and emailed to you during registration.

What if I am unable to perform CPR? (persons with limitations, wheelchairs, etc.)2025-10-14T18:03:10+00:00

No worries, we will work with you as best as we can to help you understand CPR.  Just because you may not be able to get down and do CPR does not mean you cannot take the class and learn about CPR. We may not be able to issue you a course completion card saying you can do CPR, but we will not hesitate to teach you about CPR.

Do I need to be physically fit to take a CPR class?2025-10-14T17:40:09+00:00

Learning CPR will require you to be up nd down off the ground.  When practicing and performing CPR, students will be kneeling next to manikins.  Not the entire class, just the portions of practicing and performing CPR.  Accommodations can be made for students upon request.

Do I have to pass a test?2025-10-14T17:37:43+00:00

All students need to pass the skills portions of CPR. However, written tests are only for our Healthcare Provider class such as BLS, ACLS, and PALS. Non-Healthcare Provider classes including CPR and First Aid do not require a written test.

Do I have to perform CPR in front of others?2025-10-14T17:33:01+00:00

In our office, practicing CPR and performing CPR for the Instructor is done concurrently with the other students.  In our advanced life support classes, students go through scenarios where performing CPR is likely to happen in small groups.  This will occur after opportunities to practice CPR have been offered and any questions regarding CPR can be asked.

Do you still do mouth-to-mouth?2025-10-14T17:20:28+00:00

Yes.  And No.  Mouth-to-mouth breathing has been around since cardiopulmonary resuscitation was introduced, While it has always been taught and part of CPR it has never been said you must do mouth-to-mouth on victims you find.  Does it help or improve chances of survival, yes.  Is it risky and yucky, yes.  So with that said mouth-to-mouth is still taught and discussed, but it is emphasised by Absolute CPR that mouth-to-mouth is a decision to do reserved by the rescuer.  COVID-19 and its publicized contagiousness has changed the way everyone thinks about mouth-to-mouth.

Use your best judgment when deciding to do mouth-to-mouth on unknown victims.

Is there any difference between the different CPR curriculums?2025-10-14T17:06:27+00:00

No.  All the different institutions that provide CPR training follow the latest ILCOR (International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation) science.  ILCOR is an international organization that advances the science of resuscitation.  Organizations such as the American Heart Association (AHA), Health Science Institute (HSI), and the like take these recommendations and produce educational presentations.

Please note, while much of the science is the same from one organization to the other, you must be aware of what your industry requires, more importantly what your job requires and/or what your academic institution requires is the authority.  It is the student’s responsibility to find and take the classes required by their employer and their school.

Often, American Heart Association (AHA) classes are the preferred organization for training in healthcare institutions as well as academic programs for healthcare-related fields in this area.

What does AED mean?2025-10-14T16:49:41+00:00

AED are small, easy to use machines that allow bystanders to help victims of cardiac arrest.  Applied to unresponsive victims, AED are attached by large stickers applied to the chest.  Then the AED analyzes the cardiac rhythm of the victime to determine if a shock is advised.  If a shock is advised the AED prompts the rescuer to shock the victim by pressing a button.

AED’s are found in many public places such as libraries, parks, schools, and the like.  Many companies also have them installed in their buildings, such as grocery stores and department stores.

What classes do you offer?2025-10-14T16:33:10+00:00

Absolute CPR offers a variety of cardiopulmonary resuscitation classes and advanced life support classes.  These classes are offered by the American Heart Association (AHA) and Health & Safety Institute (HSI).  All of our BLS, ACLS, and PALS training are AHA.  Most of our CPR, AED, and First Aid training is HSI.

Please verify with employment and academic requirements about what you are expected to take to ensure you are taking the right classes.  It is the student’s sole responsibility to sign up for and register for the correct class.

What are Blended / eLearning classes?2025-11-12T04:50:12+00:00

The American Heart Association offers eLearning options that allow students to watch the video portions of class in the comfort of their own home on a device connected to the Internet. After reviewing these videos, students print a Certificate of Completion, demonstrating watching these videos, then students schedule a Skills Check.  At this appointment, students watch more videos, practice the Skills learned, then demonstrate the Skills they learned in front of an Instructor. After completing these steps, students will receive their Course Completion Card.

Do you have a cancellation or rescheduling policy?2025-11-03T19:50:43+00:00

Yes.  Our instructors rely on students arriving on time and attending class.  We cannot wait for students to arrive, prolonging the class.  Therefore, we have a cancellation and rescheduling policy to help ensure a pleasant experience for everyone.  Often our classes fill up and while we try to offer a waitlist for students to register, they are not able to attend class last minute when someone does not show up, try to cancel last minute, or try to reschedule last minute.  So to try to accommodate all students, we have this policy.

Click to review our General Policies, where our Cancellation and Rescheduling Policy is included.

Is there parking at your location?2025-10-14T16:33:11+00:00

Yes, we have plenty of free parking at our location.

Do you offer group discounts?2025-10-14T16:33:11+00:00

Yes.  We can offer group discounts depending on the size of the group, email us for more information.  We can offer a private class for groups of 8 or more students.  We can arrange an off-site class at your place as well. Please email us for details.

Can I register for multiple classes?2025-10-14T16:33:11+00:00

You can take advantage of our Package offerings for Healthcare Provider classes by paying for any combination of BLS. ACLS, and PALS.

But you will then have to register for reach class individually.  We hope this is convenient for you.

Do you have any age restrictions?2025-10-14T17:26:50+00:00

Great question. The American Heart Association (AHA) says students must be 13 years old. Absolute CPR suggests parents use their best judgment, considering they know their child best. CPR deals with the suggestion of end-of-life scenarios and can be a lot to deal with no matter how old someone is.  So we suggest considering attending and participating taking the class with their child – this is especially helpful when they have questions after class.

Our Office and Classroom

Our Office

Located in the Roosevelt Glen Corporate Center in the West Burbs of Chicago, our office has access to many expressways and major roads, making finding your way to our office easy.  We are located at the inteerssection of Roosevelt Road and Nicholl Way behind the CVS Pharmacy annd Panera Bread. Plenty of free parking surrounding our building allows easy access into our building.  With lots of shopping and dining opportunities in our area you will not be disappointed.

We offer nearly every class the American Heart Association has to offer. If there is a class you do not see, we will find a way to offer it to you.

Our building is accessible on the south side, with an elevator in the entryway and stairs to take to the second floor where you can find our classroom.

Our Classroom

Our spacious classroom accommodates up to 16 students. If you are interested in reserving an entire class for an event, we can accommodate more students with enough planning and notice. Absolute CPR provides enough equipment for each student to practice with, eliminating the need for taking turns and reducing the class time waiting for and watching others practice. This also helps prevent contact with other students and makes for a more hygienic environment for everybody.

Please be sure to wear comfortable clothes when attending a class that requires you to practice skills, especially CPR. Moving around, getting up and down, and performing CPR can be strenuous. Wearing something comfortable will be helpful. Depending on the time of the year, a light jacket can help keep you warm and allow you to take it off if you become too warm.
